YIPPEEEEEEE, Congratulations Wendy and ?

Wendy might not seem very happy these days, but she really is.  She loves being a mommy, and In just about a month her brand new family will be here.

A huge Wendy tummy with still three weeks to go.  It just makes you wonder where all those little guys are fitting in there.

And we have the boys looking out after Wendy and the kids.  One of them is the daddy and one of them is the uncle.  We'll find out later in the stork story just which one of our handsome little guys are going to be the proud papa...

Did you take our poll yet to cast your vote for who you think the daddy is to Wendy's puppies?  Click on Wendy's newspaper story to take you to the voting booth.

With two weeks to go Wendy is getting a little rest and relaxation in the warm sun of a Fall afternoon.  She's feeling well and the puppies are doing fine.  I can feel lots of movement when I place the palm of my hand on her huge tummy.

Wendy is hanging in there.  Her appetite is not quite what it's used to be, but that's normal at this point in her pregnancy.  With 11 days to go, Wendy is slowing down and spending more of her day just resting.

Wendy is a single digit mommy now.  Nine days left and from the look on her face, it can't come soon enough.  Soon we'll start taking her temperature daily.

And then there are the boys.

Still watching,
Still protecting

Today is October 11th.  Four days short of Wendy's due date, HOWEVER, I don't believe she's going to make it to the 15th.  Wendy is showing definite signs that labor is close.  She is extremely uncomfortable, has no appetite, nesting big time, and probably the most important sign, her temperature has dropped.

 We're getting CLOSE!

Wendy is definitely looking for a place to nest.  Under the kennel looks very appealing to her.

She even managed to squeeze herself into their little kanagroo playset to find a quiet spot to nest.

Instead it's back to her kennel house where the lights are on and the camera is rolling.  From here on out Wendy will be watched very closely on our inside monitors.  We will know immediately when things start to happen.  Our whelping room is all set up and ready when she is....

Now it's time to find out the answer to the BIG question.

WHO'S YOUR DADDY?

It's October 12, 2007 and a BIG congratulations to Wendy for a job well done.  After a  huge litter and a pair of bloodshot eyes, Wendy is getting some well deserved rest.  Wendy delivered a record breaking 12 puppies, unfortunately the last puppy did not survive.   The remaining 11 pups seem to be fine at this point.  They're certainly going to have to do alot of nipple sharing over the next several weeks.

Wendy's pups are just four days old.  Because there's so many pups, it's hard for any of them to get a full tummy at feeding time, so we have started supplemental feedings.  They puppies are mostly  between 7 and 9 ounces in weight.  They do seem to be in very good health, just on the small side.  I'm happy to say that I've already seen a big difference in their weight from just one day of supplementing.

Wendy has adopted our talking monkey as her 12th puppy.

Wendy's puppies just turned one week old.  The pups are getting big and have definitely added some weight to their bones.  All the pups are well over 10 ounces now.  Infact, a few are hitting the 14 ounce mark.  They're all doing great and have been moved out to the puppy nursery where they will remain for the next six weeks.
Wendy is doing a great job taking care of her puppies.

Wendy's pups are nearly three weeks old.

3 1/2 weeks old and becoming VERY active little puppies.  Playing and wrestling from one end of the whelping area to the next.  Cute little puppy barks and growls are a constant reminder of how quickly the time is flying by.  They're still a little on the small side but lets not forget, because there were so many of them, they were born 4 - 5 ounces smaller than our usual litters, but, they are doing great.  Even our smallest pup, who I call Midge (far left corner) is gaining slowly, but steadily.

I've moved Wendy and the pups to the big side of the kennel to give them more room.  The only problem with this is, with 11 puppies storming the door when I open it, it's difficult to take photos.  The older they get, the faster they run for the door when I open it, so here you'll have to get a look at them from behind the wire door.  I can't imagine the chaos we're going to have when 11 puppies graduate to playtime on the floor.

The pups got their first real meal today and boy did they love it.  Here you see them all diving into their kibble.  Midge, (Tri pup front left) our smallest puppy was the first one into the dish and the last one out.  She planted her feet firm and didn't let any of those bigger pups push her out of the way.  By the way, she gained a whole ounce her next weigh in.
At 4 1/2 weeks old, they're all doing great!

Wendy's pups are five weeks old today and have definitely mastered the technique of climbing out of their whelping area.  The pups are doing great.  They all had their vet check the other night and got a clean bill of health.  They are loving puppy food and drinking water.   In another week we will begin the weaning process.

  Meet Our
   New Beagle Puppy

Andrew pretty much had his mind made up before he got here about which puppy he wanted.  Although he was tempted a few times, he kept going back to this handsome little guy.... Wendy's last puppy born will now be known has Hendrix.

Renae, DJ, and the girls had a fun time visiting the puppies.  Julianne had her eye on this little female pup and never looked back.  Torre (named after Joe Torre) is going to have alot of fun playing with her two big sisters.

Dana was thrilled with her new puppy, Hunter, and is counting the days until she comes back to pick him up.  I have a feeling this little boy is going to have PLENTY of love and attention.

Joe Jr. picked himself his own birthday present today.  He and his family are just thrilled with their new puppy, Rusty.  Rusty may be Joe's puppy, but I have a feeling he's going to have to fight his parents for a little puppy time.  Seems mom and dad have fallen for this little guy.

Nancy and Dave came to us today with the intention of choosing one of Wendy's tri colored males, but Connor and Luke had different plans.  The boys chose Wendy's little lemon and white puppy and named him Buddy.

Tracy's twin boys, Jacob and Nicholas are going to get the surprise of their life on December 1st.  The boys have been asking for a beagle puppy for a long time now and were promised one for their 8th birthday.  Well, they'll be getting an early birthday present this year.  Wendy's smallest little lemon and white male, now named Cooper, is going to be Jacob and Nick's new beagle puppy.
Happy Birthday Boys!

Boy do John and Nancy have a surprise waiting for their two girls, Kate and Carolyn.  They have NO idea they're getting a puppy, and as if getting one puppy isn't exciting enough.  Wait until they find out they're getting TWO puppies.  That's right, Wendy's little tri colored female and lemon and white male have a new home.  And a great one at that!

Kim and Dan picked out Wendy's sweet little lemon and white female today.  She doesn't have a name yet, but I'm sure the couple will come up with just the right one by the time they come back for her next weekend.

I think it was love at first sight when Gregg, Robin, and the kids met Wendy's little girl for the first time.  Even Wendy gave her stamp of approval to this family as she squeezed in the photo.  The kids decided to name this adorable little girl Molly and can't wait to come back for her next week.
