You're all invited to Bugle's first Birthday Party
Pearl's two little puppies Bugle and Riley turned one year old on March 18th. Bugle's family sent us photos of Bugle's birthday party and we would like to share them with you.

Bugle today
Happy Birthday sweet boy!
I can see how much you're loved!
And this is what Bugle's family says about him in their own words:
About Bugle:
Bugle is very happy Beagle. He has been the greatest joy in our home since the day we found out pearl was expecting puppies. As a family we watched and prayed through the whole pearl and her pups’ experience. Being about eight or so on the list waiting for a pup we never expected to be offered one of Pearl’s two puppies. We were so thrilled when we got a phone call that we could get one.
We went to visit him for the first time. He was adorable and energetic. The next two weeks of waiting seemed long. We finally picked him up and he was as perky and dramatic as any beagle could be. He was all “boy” and all “beagle,” he was our boy.
During his first year he grew quickly and learned a lot. Bugle loves to play, and he’s got three sisters who love to play with him. Bugle gets his nails polished, he gets dressed up in dresses, and he even gets some blush. He’s got the best temperament and personality and he loves people especially when they rub his belly. Bugle loves getting all the attention. If anyone hugs or gets a kiss he’s right there jumping up for his ‘lovins.’
This is a flavor of Bugles typical day.
I wake up every morning at about 6:00, Bugle’s back is pressed against mine and his head is on my pillow and he’s snoring, there is my boy. With a kiss and a few scratches he’s up and ready to go. First, I bring him downstairs to put him out. He comes back in and races me up the steps to wake each of his 3 sisters. He kisses their faces and pounces on them. He wants to play. We all head downstairs to the kitchen. Everyone, including Bugle, gets breakfast. I crate Bugle and I take the girls to the bus stop. When I return Bugle is let out and he follows me through the house as I tend to my chores. By mid morning the sun is shining on the back of my sofa and Bugle assumes his position. He perches himself on the sofa back and looks out the den window. Usually, I can hear snoring while I’m in the kitchen and he’s taking a snooze. Bugle waits for his pal, my youngest daughter, Lisabeth to get home from Kindergarten. As soon as she gets in he’s by her side. They run upstairs, he takes her socks, and they run around some more, it’s all giggles and high jumps. They have a blast together. He waits for the next wave of girls to come home and it’s more of the same. Bugle has dinner when we have dinner. He gets his Purina one with a little bit of beef or turkey mixed in. After dinner Bugle goes to his room (crate) and takes out his toys and throws them around the den and he entertains himself till the girls finish their homework. During TV time he usually curls up with Dave or me. Sometimes, he even sits up and watches TV. That’s funny. At around 10:00 Bugle wants to go to bed. He paces around and dramatizes his boredom. He barks at me to get up off the sofa to put him to bed. We go up to bed and Bugle jumps up on the bed burrows under the covers and curls up to my belly.
Cute things Bugle does:
-Sits on a chair at the kitchen table to listen to us having family discussions, as if he should be there. He watches as we speak almost as if he understands.
-Buries his toys and sometimes pizza crust under his bedding or even in my sofas
-Jumps up onto the window sills to look outside
-Pulls the children’s socks off as we carry them up for bed
-When he plays chase he screams just like one of the girls-it’s a real scream-very funny to see
-Follows the girls wherever they are to be included
-If Dave hugs me or kisses me Bugle has to get hugged and kissed too.
-Bugle gives hugs and kisses
-Plays dress up with the girls
-Chews the plastic noses off stuffed toys-all our stuffed animals have a new look now
-Carries on like the biggest baby and the vet
-Still cries and pees when he has to get a shot-he’s very dramatic
-We sometimes think he’s part mountain goat and kangaroo-he gets up to and roams any high place-sleeps on sofa backs, top of his crate, walks on window sills, sneaks up on the kitchen table and my sewing table.
-The girls’ favorite game to play with Bugle-The Bugle and Riley game. They pretend Bugle is a baby puppy; Lisabeth is the baby puppy Riley, Victoria is Pearl and Virginia is the Aunt. Pearl and the Aunt protect the baby puppies from getting hurt in a storm. They gather up food-Bugles favorite part and they weather the storm.
He’s an important part of our family.
It’s hard to put into words all the cute things he does. He is just a great pooch. We think everything he does is cute. Bugle is our boy, we love him
Happy First Birthday Riley

Riley is doing wonderful. She is the hit of the neighborhood. All the kids run to see her and know her by name. We even have one neighbor girl who has a dog of her own, but she would rather play with Riley. We often take her for walks and she runs with Tim on occasion. She has been very healthy. She is so easy-going. We often remark that no other dog would put up with the things she does. Tim has been training her to shake, sit, lay down, roll over and "sleep". It seems as if she has always been part of our family, even our extended family love her and want to watch her for us. We have a cable in the backyard so she can run around and she barks furiously at the next door neighbor's cat. We always know when Riley has spotted the cat. She generally does not bark all that much except when she sees the kids outside and wants to be with them. She still sleeps in her crate at night and is in there when we are not at home. She has the run of the house though when we are here. I have never seen a dog that likes artificial plants like she does! Her favorite toys are old socks of Tim's that he has stuffed for her to chew on and rawhide bones to chew. Tim gives her a daily full body massage and she lays on her back totally relaxed with enjoyment. I do believe we spoil her! Thank you for your part in Riley's transition and temperament. Your guidance has helped us become better dog owners. We continue to read training books and learn more about what's best for her. We're so thankful to have her as part of our family.
